I'm your host, Kera Myles. And today's mini episode is about connecting the dots. How reprogramming your mindset sets the stage for embracing feedback as a powerful tool for growth. If you've been listening, you know we've been exploring how the stories you tell yourself can hold you back. Today, we're wrapping up that conversation and setting the stage for episode five, where we'll dive into the art of feedback, how to navigate criticism, silence, and applause with strength and clarity. Let's rise together.
Your mindset is a lens through which you view feedback. If your inner narrative is full of doubt, I'm not good enough, or I can't handle criticism, feedback will feel like a threat. But when you reprogram that narrative, when you shift to thoughts like I'm capable of learning, or I welcome opportunities to grow, feedback becomes a gift. Here's what I mean. One of my clients was on a personal growth journey, working hard to improve their confidence and communication skills. They wanted support from their spouse, but instead they got silence and distance.
At first, this lack of feedback felt like rejection and they began questioning their efforts. But over time, they realized they couldn't control how others responded. They could only control their own narrative. They shifted their focus to internal validation, celebrating their progress for themselves. Eventually, their consistency and growth inspired the spouse to engage more and offer encouragement. The lesson?
Growth isn't about waiting for someone else to cheer you on. It's about building the confidence to cheer for yourself. We'll be right back. ♪ Oh, let it go ♪ ♪ Can't let this thing called love get away from you ♪ ♪ Feel free right now, go do what you wanna do ♪ ♪ Can't let nobody take it away from you, for me, for we ♪ ♪ No time for moping around, are you kidding, kidding ♪ ♪ And no time for negative vibes, 'cause I'm waiting ♪ ♪ And it's been a long week, I've put in my hardest ♪ ♪ Gonna live my life, feels so good to get it right ♪ ♪ I like when I see you when I'm looking at me ♪ ♪ When I'm walking past the mirror, mirror ♪ ♪ Don't stress through the night at a time ♪ ♪ And my life ain't worried about if you feel it, feel it ♪ ♪ Got my head on straight, I got the vibe right ♪ ♪ I ain't gonna let you feel it ♪ ♪ See, I won't change my life ♪ - Your personal mindset is powerful.
But what about in teams or organizational settings? Feedback is just as critical there and is shaped by the collective mindset of the group. I once worked with a team that struggled with giving and receiving feedback. Their narrative was, if I point out someone's mistake, it will create conflict. Because of this, they avoided feedback altogether, which led to repeated errors and underlying frustration. Through coaching, the team learned to reframe feedback as an opportunity to collaborate and improve.
They introduced a simple practice, weekly check-ins, where everyone shared one thing they appreciated about a colleague and one area for improvement. This built trust and opened the door for honest, constructive conversations. The result, feedback became a tool for connection and growth rather than conflict and fear. At the organizational level, I worked with a company where feedback was seen as a punishment. Reviews were focused on what went wrong, creating a culture of defensiveness and fear. The shift came when leadership decided to lead by example.
In meetings, they began sharing their own growth moments, times they had learned from feedback and made changes. This vulnerability redefined feedback as a tool for innovation rather than criticism. Employees began seeking out feedback proactively, knowing it was about improvement, not judgment. Whether in personal relationships, teams, or organizations, the way you approach feedback determines whether it becomes a barrier or a bridge to growth. In episode five, we'll dive into how to handle feedback in all its forms, whether it's criticism, silence, or applause. We'll explore strategies to navigate feedback without letting it derail your confidence, respond to silence in a way that empowers you, and build a culture of feedback in your personal and professional life.
What happens when feedback comes from someone who doesn't support your growth, or when the silence feel like rejection? We'll explore how to overcome those emotional hurdles and use feedback to fuel transformation. Your mindset is the foundation for everything, and now you're ready to take the next step. By reprogramming your inner narrative, you've opened a door to growth, connection, and transformation. Before next week's episode, reflect on one story about feedback that's been holding you back and rewrite it. Subscribe to Phoenix Phreedom for weekly tools and insights to fuel your growth.
