Why Smart People Fall For The Wrong Person
Relationships, Attachment & Patterns
Have you ever looked back at a relationship and thought I Knew something was wrong So, why did I stay? Why did it feel so powerful Even when it was slowly draining me There is a neurological reason for that Welcome to Phoenix Phreedom I'm your host Kera today's episode arrives on the first day of spring a season that has always symbolized renewal and new growth and That feels like the perfect place to begin a conversation About human patterns and how they change There's a moment Many intelligent people experience at least once in their lives It usually happens late at night When the relationship has already started to unravel When the emotional fog finally begins to lift and a quiet question appears in your mind How did I end up here again? Different person different story, but somehow the emotional experience feels strangely familiar The same intensity the same confusion the same magnetic pull towards someone who ultimately could not meet you where you were and If you're someone who studies people who reflects on behavior who tries to understand patterns This question can feel even more unsettling because logically You knew better You notice the distance you saw the inconsistencies you recognize the subtle signals and yet Something inside you still felt drawn towards them as a life and executive coach and a social scientist Studying advanced human behavior.
This is one of the most fascinating patterns I observe Not because intelligent people lack awareness, but because attraction rarely begins in logic Attraction begins in pattern recognition your brain is constantly scanning the world around you searching for emotional familiarity and Sometimes what feels exciting is simply something your nervous system has experienced before Let me paint a picture Imagine this You meet someone the conversation feels effortless They seem to understand you almost immediately They mirror your humor your curiosity Your ideas about life it feels rare For a few days. The communication is constant Good morning messages late night conversations little compliments that make you feel seen you begin to think this might actually be something real and then suddenly Silence Hours go by then a full day and Suddenly your mind is louder than the room you're sitting in your mind begins Analyzing did I say something wrong?
Are they busy? maybe they're overwhelmed and just as you begin pulling your energy back a message appears something charming something warm Suddenly the connection feels alive again Your body relaxes your brain releases dopamine and the cycle begins again Connection distance return Each time it happens the emotional intensity Grows and what feels like chemistry may actually be your brain responding to on predictability and Unpredictability is one of the strongest hooks the human brain responds to This is where an important psychological concept enters the conversation lemurs Lemurs is a Neurological state of intense emotional fixation. It's not just attraction. It's Anticipation your mind becomes focused on another person you replay Conversations you analyze their messages you search for signs of meaning your brain begins associating that person with the possibility of emotional reward and That anticipation releases dopamine the same neurological system involved in gambling social media and addictive behavior loops But here's the fascinating part What strengthens Lemurins the most is unpredictability when attention appears and then disappears When affection shows up and then pulls away This is where modern relationship language comes in Breadcrumbing and future faking Breadcrumbing happens when someone gives you just enough attention to keep you emotionally invested but never enough consistency to create real clarity a Message here a compliment there a sudden Reappearance after distance just enough to keep the emotional thread alive Future faking works differently instead of small signals it offer big promises plans for the future shared dreams a Beautiful picture of what the relationship could become But those promises rarely translate into consistent behavior your mind falls in love with the possibility, but the relationship never quite arrives in reality and This is where many intelligent people become confused because the connection feels real Even though the consistency never quite arrives across psychology mythology and social Observation there is another figure that often appears in these dynamics the trickster The trickster understands perception.
They read people quickly. They sense emotional needs They mirror desires. They know when to move closer and when to disappear just long enough to create intrigue in modern life some individuals instinctively Understands how attention works They may not study psychology But they know how to create emotional tension how to appear mysterious how to stay slightly out of reach and when someone Experiencing limerence encounter this kind of emotional unpredictability the result can feel incredibly powerful But here's an important truth Magnetism is not the same thing as compatibility sometimes magnetism is simply your nervous system responding to uncertainty and the uncomfortable truth is The brain can mistake emotional instability for connection There's another dynamic many people do not recognize immediately Sometimes the person you meet is not Presenting their authentic self.
They are presenting a carefully constructive version of themselves a persona a representative The successful entrepreneur they emotionally evolved partner the deeply attentive listener But over time small inconsistencies begin to appear story shift details change promises remain words rather than actions What you thought was transparency slowly reveals itself as performance Sometimes you're not falling in love with a person you're falling in love with the version of themselves. They are performing What makes this pattern even more? Interesting is that it does not only appear in Romantic relationships. It appears in professional environments as well in workplaces some individuals learn how to present a very polished version of themselves the Confident leader the visionary strategist the person who always seems to have the right answer in the room But over time the same signals begin to appear the promises do not match the follow-through the image becomes stronger than actual results and people begin responding to the perception of the competence rather than the reality of it in Psychology this is often called impression management Human behavior rarely changes simply because then setting changes The same pattern that shows up in relationships often appear in leadership business and power dynamics this brings up an important distinction the difference between true confidence and performative confidence True confidence tends to be quiet.
It does not need constant validation It shows up through consistency through follow-through through emotional stability over time Performative confidence works differently. It often appears strong in the beginning Charisma big ideas both statements, but over time the performance begins to reveal small cracks The promises become larger than the results the image becomes more important than the substance Because real character is not revealed in moments of excitement. It is revealed in patterns of behavior over time There's another personality dynamic that sometimes appear in these situations the martyr hero pattern This is the person who constantly presents themselves as both the victim and the Savior at the same time Someone has always wronged them a former partner misunderstood them a colleague Betrayed them a friend did not appreciate their loyalty But in the very same story, they are also the hero the one who sacrificed the most the one who tried the hardest the one who carried everyone else through difficulty and Pathetic people often respond strongly to these stories because empathy makes us want to help But over time a pattern may begin to emerge Different people different situations yet somehow the same narrative appears again and again now it Is important to say something here?
Not everyone who shares difficult experiences is operating from a toxic place Many people truly have endured hardship They have stepped up for others. They have carried responsibility When no one else would that's real strength The different appears and what happens next? Healthy resilience allows someone to grow beyond hardship Toxic martyr patterns keep someone emotionally anchored to the story of suffering Because the problem is not that someone has suffered The problem is when suffering becomes their identity Real strength grows beyond the story Toxic patterns remain trapped inside it the people who stay the longest in these emotional loops are often thoughtful Empathetic and intelligent They try to understand they analyze behavior They believe that if they just decode the situation clearly enough The confusion will resolve But one of the most important things I have learned studying human behavior is this The smartest people are not defeated by the lack of intelligence They are defeated by Unexamined emotional patterns Your logical mind Understands what a healthy relationship should look like but your nervous system may still respond to emotional familiarity Which means the person who feels the most exciting may simply be activating a pattern your brain already recognizes Once you begin seeing the pattern instead of reacting to it Your relationship with attraction begins to change Right now some of you listening may be replant a relationship in your mind a Moment where something felt powerful magnetic maybe even a little intoxicating and You might also be noticing something else the moment of confusion the mixed signals The times your intuition quietly asked a question.
You did not want to answer yet The moment of recognition you're feeling right now that is awareness and Awareness is where patterns begin to lose their control Because once your mind sees a pattern clearly it cannot unsee it The fascinating part is that the brain is designed to change through neuroplasticity Every new insight begins reshaping how you interpret future experiences Which means the pattern that shaped your past do not have to define what you choose next That is what Phoenix Phreedom is about understanding the patterns that shape human behavior so you can rise beyond them and Sometimes the most important realization is this Sometimes the person you thought you were trying to understand was never the real puzzle The real puzzle was the part of you that kept hoping the next moment would finally feel different The real relationship that confused you the most may not have been teaching you about the other person It may have been revealing a pattern inside you That was ready to be seen in the next episode We're going to take this conversation a step further we're going to talk about how to break the neurological loop that keeps people emotionally attached to someone who cannot truly meet them and In some cases how to recognize when you might be the one creating the loop without even realizing it Because once you understand how the brain builds attraction You can begin to retrain it and that realization can change everything If this conversation resonated with you, make sure you follow Phoenix Phreedom So you do not miss the next episode if you are interested in working with me through life or executive coaching or learning more about my upcoming book on attraction patterns and Personal transformation you can find all of that on our website And if you or someone, you know needs additional mental health support We also have compiled a list of trusted professional resources there You can find everything at phoenixphreedom.com Thank you for spending this time exploring human behavior with me until next time stay curious about your mind Because awareness is where transformation (upbeat music)
